Best 2022 US Open Sleepers

The last tennis Grand Slam tournament of the year is almost here. At the end of August, the 2022 US Open will begin, and the best players in the world will compete for the prestigious title and big money.

We all know that Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek are the most likely winners of the respective titles, but what about the underdogs? Some players are definitely underestimated based on the latest bookmaker odds. In this post, I highlight my top US Open sleepers in 2022.

Rafael Nadal

  • Odds on victory: +500
  • ATP Rankings: 3
  • Age: 36

I’m sure many of you will say that Rafa Nadal is never a sleeper in any tennis tournament. In principle, I’m inclined to agree, but just look at the odds! The best tennis betting sites are offering +500 on the legendary Spaniard to win the 2022 US Open.

I could probably understand this if Nadal was on the decline, but the man has already won two Grand Slams this year. Rafa has been outstanding for most of the season and has a chance to return to the number one position in the ATP Rankings.

He still has the skills, mentality and experience to win any tournament he enters. The only question marks concern his health. The Spanish icon has suffered from various problems this year, but I am sure he will prepare well for the US Open.

Naomi Osaka

  • Odds of victory: +800
  • WTA Rankings: 39
  • Age: 24

Another tennis superstar makes my list of top sleepers for the 2022 US Open. Naomi Osaka already has two titles from this tournament. Under normal circumstances, the price for another would be quite low.

The Japanese prodigy has struggled on and off the court in 2022. Osaka has struggled with injuries and mental problems that have had a huge impact on her performances.

Her last Grand Slam title came in early 2021. Most recently, Osaka was knocked out in the first round at the Cincinnati Masters and Canadian Open. She looks like a shadow of her former self and has fallen out of the top 20 in the official WTA rankings.

It doesn’t look good, but Osaka loves the US Open. She knows how to win in New York and I expect a much better performance there. Let’s not forget how long this tournament is. If the superstar accumulates a few wins, her confidence will rise and you never know what can happen.

Osaka is a long shot, but the odds of +800 for the winner of the 2022 US Open are too high for a proven champion like her.

Jannik Sinner

  • Odds for victory: +1400
  • WTA Rankings: 12
  • Age: 21

We all know that Jannik Sinner will eventually win a Grand Slam tournament if he stays healthy. The young Italian will be one of the best tennis players in the world for many years to come if his career is anywhere close to the early predictions.

Sinner had already reached three Grand Slam quarterfinals before reaching the legal drinking age in the US. Two of them took place this year, and he certainly loves hard courts.

The prodigy also beat Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon a few weeks ago and won the Croatia Open. It’s only a matter of time when Grzechnik will regularly play in Grand Slam semifinals and finals.

I think he has enough confidence and skills to win right now if everything goes his way. I consider him one of the best players for the US Open in 2022, especially since at most bookmakers you can get above +1200 on his victory.
